This is why people leave the city. This is where the rivers run wild and free, the roads wind their way through cool, quiet forests, and the blue Appalachians rise all around you in the morning mist. It's a hiker's dream, a paddler's paradise, and not half bad even when what you want to do is nothing more than sit on a cabin porch for a while and listen to the murmur of a stream.
It's a place where small shops are filled with antiques and collectibles, arts and local crafts. And where small-town hospitality is absolutely real. The natives call it the Copper Basin, this small but adventure-packed corner where Tennessee meets Georgia and they both meet up with North Carolina.

Up coming events:

This will be a very exciting Christmas Season! Our local businesses, Nifty 50's Cafe and Christmas Is Here, along with several other merchants, will be creating a Christmas Village! It will be located on the Nifty 50's Patio, and will be open to the public starting November 28th, 2008. Santa will be at the Village on the weekends of November 28th & 29th, December 5th & 6th, 12th & 13th, and 20th & 21st, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Also to be featured, some of our local Church Choirs will be singing Christmas Carols.

Blue Ridge Scenic Railway will have some special Christmas trips planned, beginning this year. The Scenic Railway will be in town on November 28th & 29th, December 13th and 20th, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

Light Up the Basin will be December 5th, starting at the United Community Bank at 6:00pm, proceeding to BB&T, Copperhill City Hall, and then on to the old metal bridge for it's lighting. Kiwanis Annual Christmas Parade will be in the Basin starting at 2:00pm.

The Copper Basin was featured in a December article in the Travel Section of the New York Times. To read the article, click here.

Gil Carter is now in charge of restocking and maintaining the TCBA's eight brochure racks. Marty will take care of distributing member's rack cards to the various locations, if you provide her with a supply of your literature. Call Gil at 423-548-4453 to arrange to drop off your rack cards.
